About Taiga Finance
What Taiga Finance is and how it turns your accounts into every figure you see.
Taiga Finance is a personal finance app that reads your accounts and sorts each transaction into a category. Every other page is built from those two things, and each figure shows the math behind it. Knowing that order explains where a number comes from and where to fix it when it looks wrong. Each part of the app has its own guide under Using Taiga Finance, and Your first week is the place to begin.
What is Taiga Finance?
Section titled “What is Taiga Finance?”Taiga Finance is built for a household whose money no longer fits in one bank login. Checking and cards, a 401(k), a house and its mortgage, unvested stock grants: each becomes an account in Taiga Finance. Together they make one net worth. The same accounts feed a plan for the month and a projection of the years ahead. A small independent team builds Taiga Finance, not a venture-backed company.
How does Taiga Finance build the picture?
Section titled “How does Taiga Finance build the picture?”An account is anything with a balance: a bank account, a card, a loan, a brokerage, a home, a grant. An account gets its numbers one of three ways. A synced connection reads them from your bank. An imported file brings in history. A manual account takes the balances you type in. All three count the same everywhere.
Accounts produce transactions, and every transaction carries a category. Taiga Finance assigns one as the transaction arrives, and you can change it. The category decides where an amount shows up later, so a correction in Transactions carries through to every page that reads it.
The rest of Taiga Finance reads those two layers:
- Balances over time become net worth, and the wealth pages: Investments, Real Estate, Equity Comp.
- Categorized transactions become Reports, Recurring, and the spending side of Plan.
- Plan, Savings and Debt hold what you intend, and show what happened against it.
- Scenarios takes today’s numbers and redraws the years ahead with one assumption changed.
When a number looks wrong on one of those pages, the cause is usually upstream: a missing account, a stale balance, or a transaction in the wrong category.
Where does each number come from?
Section titled “Where does each number come from?”A derived figure in Taiga Finance shows its working. A total lists the rows that add up to it, either in a panel on the page or in a breakdown that opens from the number. A chart sits beside the figure it explains, and a report row opens the transactions behind it. A projection states the assumptions it ran on.
What does Taiga Finance leave to you?
Section titled “What does Taiga Finance leave to you?”Taiga Finance reports arithmetic on your own data, against targets and assumptions you set. It recommends no action, and nothing in it is financial advice.
Taiga Finance also can’t act on your accounts. A bank connects through Plaid, after a one-page consent headed Connect your bank that says what Taiga Finance receives. The connection is read-only: Taiga Finance reads balances and transactions and never moves money.
Who shares a Taiga Finance household?
Section titled “Who shares a Taiga Finance household?”A household is one or two people. Two members share one picture, and each person sets the Sharing of every account they own to Separate, Balance only, or Joint. The other member is shown only a hidden rollup of a Separate account, the balance of a Balance only one, and everything on a Joint one. The plan is one household plan, and its private parts reach the other member as a single rollup. Couples & household visibility has the full rules.
How do I get an account?
Section titled “How do I get an account?”Taiga Finance has no password. The sign-in form takes an email address and sends a link, or signs you in with Continue with Google, and the same form creates an account for an address that has none. A new household starts a 14-day trial of the one plan, which covers both members. The household’s admin manages the subscription from Settings › Billing, where Manage billing opens Stripe’s portal. Sign in & security and Plans & billing cover both.
Do I need to connect a bank to use Taiga Finance?
Section titled “Do I need to connect a bank to use Taiga Finance?”No. A manual account or an imported file builds the same picture. A synced connection keeps it current automatically. The three can be mixed in one household, account by account.
Do I have to use every part of Taiga Finance?
Section titled “Do I have to use every part of Taiga Finance?”No. Each page works from whatever accounts and transactions exist. The Modules card in Settings has a switch for Real Estate, Equity and Points. Hiding a module removes it from the sidebar and keeps its data.
Does Taiga Finance use AI on my data?
Section titled “Does Taiga Finance use AI on my data?”Only if the switch is on. Taiga Finance’s AI features run on Anthropic’s Claude, and turning off Smart categorization & enrichment in Settings stops them. What we send to AI lists what each feature sends.
Can I get my data out?
Section titled “Can I get my data out?”Yes. Export my data under Settings › Your data offers ↓ Full archive (.zip) with every dataset as CSV, ↓ Complete data (.json) with every underlying row, and CSV… for the datasets as separate files. Your data: export, wipe, and delete and CSV exports & Google Sheets cover both.
