Plans & billing
How to start a subscription, switch between monthly and annual, cancel, find receipts, and what happens to your data when a subscription ends.
A Taiga Finance subscription belongs to the household, and the household’s admin manages it from Settings › Billing. The band shows the plan as a record: its status, the next payment, and a Manage billing button that opens Stripe’s customer portal, where cancelling, switching between monthly and annual, changing the card and reading past invoices all happen. Payment details are entered on Stripe and never in Taiga Finance. Prices are on the pricing page; this page covers the tasks.
What is the household subscription?
Section titled “What is the household subscription?”One subscription covers every member of a household. The admin starts it, the receipts go to the address of the admin, and the other member sees the plan in their own Settings with the note Managed by the household admin. A household that has never subscribed starts with a free trial. While the household is entitled, through a trial, an active plan, or a partner arrangement, everything works. When it stops being entitled, the account turns read-only, and 90 days later its data is deleted.
How do I start a subscription?
Section titled “How do I start a subscription?”-
On Settings › Billing, pick a plan card. Each shows its price, and the annual card also shows the equivalent per month, billed annually. A household that qualifies for the founding-member rate sees a card tagged Founding member.
-
Read the order lines under the cards. With a trial, they read Free trial with its length and end date, Then, from that date with the price, and Due today at $0.00. Without one, the price is due today.
-
If someone referred you, click Add referral code and type it under Referral code.
-
Click Start 14-day trial, or Continue to checkout when no trial applies. Stripe Checkout opens, states the renewal terms above the pay button, and takes the card.
-
Stripe returns you to Settings. The band reads Confirming with Stripe… for a moment, then shows the plan record with its Status pill. A confirmation email restating the price, the period and how to cancel goes to the address of the admin.
Leaving Checkout without paying returns you with the toast Checkout canceled — nothing changed.
What does the plan record show?
Section titled “What does the plan record show?”| Line | Reads |
|---|---|
| Name | Monthly or Annual, with a Founding member tag on the founding rate, and the price beneath it |
| Status | Trial with Free trial · ends [date], Active, Canceling with Access ends [date], Past due with Stripe is retrying the payment, Paused, or Incomplete with Payment didn’t complete |
| Next payment | The date and the amount, or None once a cancellation is scheduled |
| Amount due | Replaces the next payment while the plan is past due |
| Scheduled change | The plan, price and date a switch to a shorter period takes effect |
| Payment method | On file with Stripe |
A founding-member plan carries one more line: The founding-member rate ends on a switch to another plan and can’t be restored.
How do I switch between monthly and annual?
Section titled “How do I switch between monthly and annual?”-
On Settings › Billing, click Manage billing. Stripe’s customer portal opens in the same tab.
-
Choose the other plan under the portal’s plan section and confirm.
-
Return to Taiga Finance. A switch to a longer period applies at once, and the unused part of the current period is credited. A switch to a shorter period waits for the current period to end, and the band shows it under Scheduled change until then.
A switch during the trial keeps the trial running. A founding-member plan can switch to monthly only, and the founding rate ends for good when it does, as the portal’s headline says.
How do I cancel?
Section titled “How do I cancel?”Click Manage billing and choose cancel in the portal. The cancellation takes effect at the end of the period already paid for: the band’s Status reads Canceling with Access ends [date] and Next payment reads None as soon as you return. Until that date everything keeps working.
Where are my receipts and invoices?
Section titled “Where are my receipts and invoices?”Stripe emails the admin a receipt for every successful payment, and sends a reminder before an annual renewal. The portal behind Manage billing holds the invoice history and the card on file. Taiga Finance keeps no copy of the card.
What happens when the subscription ends?
Section titled “What happens when the subscription ends?”The household stops being entitled when a cancellation reaches its date or a payment fails for good. Four things follow:
- The account turns read-only. A banner at the top of every page names the reason, Your subscription ended, Your subscription is unpaid, Your subscription is paused or No active subscription, and says Changes, syncing, and chat are paused while billing is inactive. It carries Manage billing for the admin and Export your data.
- Bank connections end. Taiga Finance asks Plaid to end its access to every connection in the household. The accounts and their history stay, frozen, exactly as a disconnect that keeps the accounts leaves them. The owner of each connection is emailed once.
- The data is deleted after 90 days. The countdown starts within a day of the lapse. Until the date, every account, transaction and budget stays readable, and exporting and Delete my account still work. The banner adds Your data is scheduled for deletion on [date]., and each member is emailed when the countdown starts, 30 days before the date and 7 days before it. Subscribing again before the date cancels the deletion and restores everything except the bank feeds, which you connect again.
- The sign-ins are kept. The deletion removes the household’s financial data, not the members’ sign-ins, so a member who comes back signs in to an empty account. A sign-in kept this way is erased after 24 months without use, after an email notice.
A past-due plan is still entitled while Stripe retries the card, so nothing above happens during that window.
What is a partner household?
Section titled “What is a partner household?”An affiliate partner’s household is entitled for as long as the partner is on the roster, with no subscription. The band’s plan row reads Partner access, and the Partner band above it shows the referral link. A household on complimentary access reads Complimentary access through [date] instead.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”The band reads “No subscription · Stripe hasn’t confirmed this one yet.”
Section titled “The band reads “No subscription · Stripe hasn’t confirmed this one yet.””You paid, but the confirmation from Stripe hasn’t reached Taiga Finance within the short wait after Checkout. The subscription exists at Stripe; Taiga Finance picks it up on its own. Reload Settings in a minute.
Status reads “Past due” with “Stripe is retrying the payment”.
Section titled “Status reads “Past due” with “Stripe is retrying the payment”.”The last charge failed. Stripe retries the card over the next days and emails the admin each time. Click Manage billing to replace the card; the next retry uses it. Access continues while the retries run.
Status reads “Incomplete” with “Payment didn’t complete”.
Section titled “Status reads “Incomplete” with “Payment didn’t complete”.”Checkout ended before the card was confirmed, often because a bank’s extra confirmation step was left open. Stripe emails the admin a link to confirm the payment. A subscription that is never confirmed is canceled, and the plan cards return.
I don’t see the plan cards or Manage billing.
Section titled “I don’t see the plan cards or Manage billing.”Only the household admin buys and manages the plan. A member sees the plan with Managed by the household admin.
“The founding-member rate ends on a switch to another plan and can’t be restored.”
Section titled ““The founding-member rate ends on a switch to another plan and can’t be restored.””The line sits under a founding-member plan as a warning, not an error. The founding rate is tied to its annual plan; the portal offers a switch to monthly only, and once made, the rate is gone.
Is there a free trial?
Section titled “Is there a free trial?”Yes, once per household. A household that has never held a subscription gets a 14-day trial, and the card is charged when it ends unless you cancel first. A household that subscribed before and comes back has no second trial, and the order lines show the price due today.
Can I get a refund?
Section titled “Can I get a refund?”A cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period, and the portal does not refund the remainder. A switch from annual to monthly also waits for the period to end. Switching from monthly to annual credits the unused part of the month against the annual charge.
Do both household members pay?
Section titled “Do both household members pay?”No. One subscription covers the household. The admin pays and manages it; the other member’s Settings shows the plan with Managed by the household admin.
What is the founding-member rate?
Section titled “What is the founding-member rate?”$60 a year, for households that subscribe by January 31, 2027. It appears as a card tagged Founding member when the household qualifies, and it stays as long as the plan isn’t switched. The pricing page has the details.
Does cancelling delete my data?
Section titled “Does cancelling delete my data?”Yes, 90 days after access ends. The account turns read-only when access ends and bank feeds stop. Everything already in the account stays to read and export until the deletion date, which the banner and the emails state. Subscribing again before that date keeps it. Deleting your data removes it sooner.
