Leaving or removing a member

The ways a two-person household ends in Taiga Finance, what each one keeps for the member who stays, and what the member who goes takes with them.

A Taiga Finance household is one account with two sign-ins, and a sign-in leaves it only by being deleted. There is no Leave household button. A member leaves by deleting their own sign-in in Settings › Danger zone; the admin can remove the other member from Settings › Household, which deletes that member’s sign-in; and an admin who deletes their own sign-in chooses between handing the admin role over first or deleting everything. In every case the data shared with the household, joint accounts included, stays with the account, and the data the leaving member did not share goes with their sign-in. None of it can be undone, and a member who wants back in signs up again and is invited again.

A household in Taiga Finance has an Admin and a Member, each with their own sign-in, sharing one set of data under one subscription. When the arrangement ends, the question is what stays and what goes. The rule is the one both of you agreed to when the household formed: data shared with the household stays with the account, and a member’s separate data, the accounts shown only as a balance and the rows they marked private, is deleted with their sign-in. Every exit shows you that split, itemized, before it runs. Couples & household visibility explains the sharing settings the split follows.

A member leaves by deleting their own sign-in. An admin follows the steps under How does an admin delete their sign-in?

  1. Open Settings › Danger zone. The Delete my account row carries ↓ Download my data first beside the Delete my account button. A download made beforehand is the only copy you keep.

  2. Click Delete my account. The Delete your account? window opens and loads a preview of what happens to your data. The confirm button stays off, with the note The account preview is still loading., until it does.

  3. Read the two lists. Stays with [name] names the joint accounts and other shared items that transfer to the other member, with Categories and budget history stay too. under them. A transferred bank account is tagged live sync stops until [name] reconnects it. Deleted with you names your separate accounts, any private transactions, and Your personal budget lines and income, savings funds, points programs, bank connections, and sign-in.

  4. Type DELETE MY ACCOUNT in the field and click Delete my account. Taiga Finance may first ask you to confirm it is you. You are signed out for good, and the household carries on with the other member and the subscription.

Only the admin sees this control. Removing a member deletes their sign-in; it is not a way to pause sharing.

  1. Open Settings › Household. The Members list shows both of you, each tagged Admin or Member, with (you) on your own row. Under the list, one line states what the role can do: The admin can invite a member, remove a member (which deletes that member’s sign-in and the data they did not share with the household, including accounts shown only as a balance), hand the admin role to the other member, and manage billing.

  2. On the other member’s row, click Remove. The Remove [name]? window opens and loads the removal preview. Its description says what the removal does: This deletes [name]’s sign-in and the data they did not share with the household, including accounts shown only as a balance and the rows they marked private, and ends their bank connections. Data shared with the household, joint accounts included, stays with the account.

  3. Read the two lists. Stays with the household names what transfers to you; a transferred bank account is tagged stops syncing until reconnected. Deleted with [name] names their separate accounts, their private transactions, and their personal budget lines, savings funds, points programs, bank connections, and sign-in.

  4. Type REMOVE MEMBER and click Remove member. Taiga Finance may first ask you to confirm it is you. The member’s sessions end at once, and their row leaves the list.

The window titled Delete your account offers an admin whose household has a second member two doors, under How to delete, and nothing can be confirmed until one is picked (the button reads No option is chosen yet.).

  • Transfer admin to [name], then delete my sign-in. [name] becomes the admin. The account, the data shared with the household (joint accounts included) and any subscription stay with them; the data you did not share, including accounts shown only as a balance, is deleted with your sign-in. The preview shows the same Stays with and Deleted with you lists a member sees, and the sentinel is DELETE MY ACCOUNT.
  • Delete everything. Both sign-ins and every account, transaction and budget are deleted, and any subscription is canceled. [name] can no longer sign in. The sentinel is DELETE EVERYTHING and the button reads Delete everything.

To hand over the role without leaving, click Make admin on the other member’s row in Settings › Household. The roles swap at once, and the former admin stays a member.

Nothing here can be undone. A removal and a delete both run the moment you confirm, and neither offers an Undo. A member who wants back in signs up again with a new sign-in, and the admin invites that address from Settings › Household.

To invite, the admin types the address in the Member email field and clicks Invite member. The Invite [email] window opens on the household terms, the same text the invited person agrees to when they join (see below); Agree and invite sends it. A pending invite then shows in the Members list, tagged Invited, with the note no link to send — they join from an in-app prompt after signing in and a Revoke button. The invited person sees a Join [household] prompt after they sign in and clicks Agree and join (or Not now).

Both the invite and the join open the household terms on a dated letterhead, and Taiga Finance records which version each of you agreed to. The current text reads:

Members of one account share its data. What a member is shown of the other’s accounts is set per account (joint, balance-only, or separate); that is an in-app setting, not a legal wall. The admin can remove a member, which deletes that member’s sign-in and the data they did not share with the household, including accounts shown only as a balance and the rows they marked private; data shared with the household, joint accounts included, stays with the account. For anything the other person must never see, keep it in a separate household.

The authorization ends when the membership does.

Does Taiga Finance notify the other member?

Section titled “Does Taiga Finance notify the other member?”

No. Taiga Finance sends no email, push, or text when a member is removed or deletes their sign-in. A removed member has no sign-in left to notify. The member who stays learns of the other’s delete inside the app: a dismissible notice headed The other member deleted their sign-in appears on their next load, saying that accounts shared jointly were transferred to them and that the other member’s non-joint accounts were deleted with their sign-in. The same event is listed under Recent account activity in Settings › Security, where the removal of a member by the admin reads Removed a member (their sign-in was deleted).

“The removal preview is still loading.”

Section titled ““The removal preview is still loading.””

The Remove member button is locked until the preview of what stays and what goes has loaded, so you never confirm a split you have not seen. Wait for the two lists; if they never appear, close the window and open it again.

“Your household changed while this was open. Review the updated summary below and confirm again.”

Section titled ““Your household changed while this was open. Review the updated summary below and confirm again.””

The household shifted between the preview and your confirm, for example an account’s Sharing changed on the other side. Taiga Finance refuses the stale preview, reloads the lists, and asks you to confirm against the new ones.

“This household already has two members.”

Section titled ““This household already has two members.””

A household holds two sign-ins. Removing a member, or that member deleting their sign-in, frees the seat before a new invite is possible.

“The household terms changed since this page loaded. Reload to review the current text.”

Section titled ““The household terms changed since this page loaded. Reload to review the current text.””

A new version of the household terms was published after the page opened. Reload, read the current text in the Invite or Join window, and agree again.

“Your account can’t be deleted right now. Please contact support if you need help.”

Section titled ““Your account can’t be deleted right now. Please contact support if you need help.””

Deletion is unavailable on this account for now. Contact support.

Yes, the part you did not share. Your separate accounts, the accounts you showed only as a balance, your private transactions, and your personal budget lines, savings funds, points programs and bank connections are deleted with your sign-in. Joint accounts and other shared items stay with the household.

Can I remove the other member without deleting their data?

Section titled “Can I remove the other member without deleting their data?”

No. Removing a member deletes their sign-in and their separate data. The shared data, joint accounts included, stays with the account. The one way to keep a sign-in in place while sharing less is the per-account Sharing setting, covered in Couples & household visibility.

What happens to a joint account when someone leaves?

Section titled “What happens to a joint account when someone leaves?”

It transfers to the member who stays. A bank-linked joint account stops syncing until that member reconnects it. Categories and budget history transfer too.

No. Both run when you confirm and offer no Undo. Rejoining means a new sign-in and a new invite.

Who owns the household after someone leaves?

Section titled “Who owns the household after someone leaves?”

The admin, always. A member’s exit leaves the admin in place. An admin who leaves either hands the role to the other member first, through Transfer admin to [name], then delete my sign-in, or deletes everything. A household is never left without an admin.
