Connection statuses

What each status on a connected bank means, the first thing to try for it, and when the fix is at the bank instead of in Taiga Finance.

Every bank you connect carries one status, shown as a pill on its row under Connections in Settings. The pill says whether Taiga Finance can still read the bank, and its wording decides what fixes it. A bank reading Expiring, Needs attention or Failed carries Fix connection on the same row, and that button is the repair. A bank reading Disconnected or Access revoked has no link left to repair, and connecting it again from Accounts is the way back.

A connection is one bank login feeding one or more accounts, so one status covers every account behind it. The status is Taiga Finance’s record of the last attempt to read that bank: it worked, it failed and Taiga Finance will try again, or it failed in a way that waits on you. A card that stops showing new charges and a checking balance that sits still for a week both start here. A link that heals overnight and one that waits on your sign-in look the same on the account. The pill tells them apart.

Pill What it means First step
Healthy The last sync read the bank. Nothing.
Expiring The bank has told Plaid it will end access on a date. Syncing still works until then. Fix connection
Needs attention The bank wants a fresh sign-in. Syncing has stopped until you give one. Fix connection
Failed The last sync ended in an error. Taiga Finance tries again at the next sync. Wait for the next sync.
Disabled You switched the bank off. Nothing is broken. Enable
Disconnected The connection was ended, by you or because billing became inactive. Connect the bank again.
Access revoked Access was revoked at the bank or in Plaid’s portal, outside Taiga Finance. Connect the bank again.
Live sync stopped The household member who connected the bank has left. There is no link to repair. Connect the bank under your own login.

The most recent sync read this bank. The row’s second line reads how many of its accounts are syncing and when it was last polled. When the bank has gained an account Taiga Finance has not seen, the line adds new accounts available at the bank and the row offers Add accounts. Connect a bank has the steps.

A Healthy bank with a card or loan behind it can carry the line Not sharing APR & liability data yet. The link is fine. Plaid is not sending the card’s APR, minimum payment, or statement balance, because the connection was made without that product. Enable APR & liability data below the line confirms with Enable APR & liability data?, then opens your bank’s login, and the figures land on the next sync. The same line without the word yet and without a button means the bank does not offer that data through Plaid.

The bank has told Plaid that this connection’s access ends soon, before anything has broken. The row’s second line reads access expires and the date, or access expires soon when Plaid gave no date. Syncing continues until then. Each account behind the link shows an amber banner in its drawer, Plaid access expires …, with the line Transactions and balances stop updating after that. With the Connection issues notification on, a push titled Access expires and the date names the bank.

The first step is Fix connection, on the row or in the banner. Signing in again renews the access and the pill returns to Healthy. Left alone, the connection breaks on that date and reads Needs attention.

The bank stopped honoring the sign-in Taiga Finance holds. A password changed, a login expired or was locked, the bank asked for a new verification step, or access was withdrawn at the bank. Taiga Finance does not retry a bank in this state. Nothing changes until you sign in again, and the balances and transactions already pulled in stay where they are.

When the bank named the cause, the row’s second line says so: authorization revoked at the bank, consent expired at the bank, or sign-in invalidated at the bank. The same phrase follows the banner in each account’s drawer, Plaid connection is broken, above the line Transactions and balances are not updating. With the Connection issues notification on, a push titled Connection needs attention names the bank.

The first step is Fix connection. Troubleshooting sync has the steps.

The fix is at the bank, not in Taiga Finance, when Plaid’s window itself reports the bank: a locked login, a password reset the bank insists on, or a bank outage. Clear that on the bank’s own site or app, then click Fix connection again.

The last sync attempt for this bank ended in an error that was not about your sign-in. The bank or Plaid was unreachable, or the bank returned an error for the request. Taiga Finance keeps the bank in its nightly sync, and the next pass that succeeds returns the pill to Healthy on its own. No push is sent, because most of these clear before anyone acts.

The row reads Failed and carries Fix connection. The drawer of each account behind it shows the same red banner as Needs attention.

The first step is to wait for the next sync, or run one now from ⟳ Sync now in Settings. A bank still reading Failed after a sync has run has a link to repair, and Fix connection signs it in again. A bank that stays Failed across several days is usually an outage between the bank and Plaid, which nothing in Taiga Finance can shorten.

You switched syncing off for the whole bank. The row reads Disabled, its second line reads sync off for all, and each account behind it shows a grey ring reading Off on Accounts. The last-known balance stays on every account and keeps counting toward net worth and budgets. No new data is pulled.

The first step is Enable on the expanded row. A Disabled bank shows no Fix connection. A link that broke while it was off comes back reading Needs attention at the next sync, with the button beside it.

The connection was ended and Plaid was asked to drop its access. Either you clicked Disconnect on this row, or the household’s billing became inactive, in which case the second line reads ended when billing became inactive and the owner of the connection received an email, A bank connection on your Taiga Finance account ended. The accounts it fed keep every balance and transaction and stop updating, and their drawers read Fed by your connection · ended. A row ended by billing keeps Disconnect, so you can still choose to delete those accounts and their history; a bank you disconnected yourself made that choice in the dialog.

The first step, when you want the data flowing again, is to connect the bank again from Accounts. A bank connected again after its connection ended lands on the same accounts when Plaid identifies them as the same, so their history continues. Otherwise the new accounts arrive beside the old ones and Accounts offers them as possible duplicates to merge.

Access was withdrawn outside Taiga Finance, at the bank or in Plaid’s portal. Taiga Finance stopped syncing, ended its side of the connection, and emailed the owner once: Access to a bank connection was revoked, with a Review connections button. The accounts keep their history and stop updating. Fix connection is not offered, because there is nothing left to sign back into.

The first step is to connect the bank again from Accounts, which asks for the bank consent only if its text has changed since you agreed.

The bank was connected under a household member’s login, and that member has left the household. Their bank connection was deleted with them, so the accounts it fed kept every balance and transaction but no longer receive anything. A notice above the bank list reads Live sync stopped for 1 account, or the count, with the line It kept its balances and transactions, but no new data is flowing since a household member left. The bank’s own row reads Live sync stopped and offers no Disable, Enable, Disconnect, or Fix connection, because there is no link left to act on.

The first step is to connect the bank again under your own login, from Accounts. The new link’s accounts arrive as new accounts. When one looks like an account you already have, Accounts shows a possible duplicates banner, and Possible duplicate accounts lets you merge the pair. Leaving or removing a member explains what a member’s exit does to shared accounts.

What does an account’s drawer say about its connection?

Section titled “What does an account’s drawer say about its connection?”

Each account under a connection carries one banner in its drawer, resolved by the server from the connection’s state and who owns it. The same cause also sets the account’s dot on Accounts: green for a connection that is updating, red for every other live state, a hollow ring for Off, a dashed ring for Manual.

Banner What it means
Plaid connection is broken The connection reads Needs attention or Failed. Fix connection is shown only when the connection is yours.
Plaid access expires … The connection reads Expiring. Fix connection renews it.
New accounts are available at Plaid The bank has an account not yet shared. Add or change accounts opens the picker.
This account is no longer shared through Plaid The account was dropped from the connection at the bank or in the picker. Add or change accounts shares it again.
Not in the last Plaid fetch The bank returned the connection without this account. Its balance and transactions stopped updating.
Fed by your connection · paused or · ended The connection is Disabled or Disconnected. For an account your partner connected, the banner names them instead: Fed by Alex’s connection · paused.
Live sync stopped The member who connected it has left.
No Plaid connection is updating this account The account has no live connection behind it.

Disconnect on a bank’s row confirms with Disconnect the bank’s name, says that syncing stops now and that Plaid is asked to end its access, and asks what to do with The accounts it brought in. Keep the accounts and history is the default: they stop updating and stay in every total. Delete the accounts and their history removes the balances, transactions and holdings they brought in, including anything merged into them, and asks you to type DELETE ACCOUNTS first. It cannot be undone.

What is lost is the link itself. Fix connection repairs the link you have. Disconnect ends it, and connecting the same bank again is a new connection:

  • Plaid pulls the history again. When Plaid identifies the accounts as the ones you kept, the new connection feeds them. Otherwise the new link’s accounts arrive beside the old ones, and each one that matches shows up in Possible duplicate accounts on Accounts for you to merge.
  • The new connection counts against your sign-in’s bank-connection limit.
  • The disconnected bank’s row stays in Settings, reading Disconnected, so the accounts it fed keep their history and their provider tag.

Disconnecting a bank is not the same as deleting one account. A single account and its history are removed by Delete account… in its drawer, described on Managing accounts.

There is no Fix connection on the bank’s row

Section titled “There is no Fix connection on the bank’s row”

The button appears only on a row reading Expiring, Needs attention or Failed. A Disabled bank hides it until you click Enable. A Disconnected, Access revoked or Live sync stopped bank has no link to repair. A bank your partner connected has no row on your Settings. See Can I fix my partner’s connection?.

“Repair did not complete — try again.”

Section titled ““Repair did not complete — try again.””

Plaid’s window finished but Taiga Finance could not record the result, usually because the exchange with Plaid failed or Plaid handed back a different bank than the one being repaired. The link is exactly as it was. Click Fix connection again.

The bank reads Healthy but an account behind it is red

Section titled “The bank reads Healthy but an account behind it is red”

The link is fine, so the account’s own state is the answer. Hover the dot on Accounts or open the drawer: the banner reads Not in the last Plaid fetch or This account is no longer shared through Plaid, and the table above says what each means. Troubleshooting sync has the steps for each.

“Last sync didn’t finish.” in the sync panel

Section titled ““Last sync didn’t finish.” in the sync panel”

The sync panel, opened from the Synced pill in the page header, reports the most recent run as a whole. This notice says the last one failed, and the line under it reads when it began or failed. A run can fail for a reason that has nothing to do with a bank link, so the connection’s own pill in Settings is the one to read.

“Bank data via Plaid paused” above the bank list

Section titled ““Bank data via Plaid paused” above the bank list”

Plaid itself stopped returning data for one or more of your connections. The notice counts them and reads when data last arrived. Existing balances and transactions are unchanged, and statement or CSV import still works. When a connection below carries Fix connection, completing it resumes syncing. Otherwise syncing resumes on its own when data returns.

Will Taiga Finance tell me when a connection breaks?

Section titled “Will Taiga Finance tell me when a connection breaks?”

Yes, when the Connection issues notification is on. It is off by default. A push titled Connection needs attention names the bank and goes only to the person who connected it, once per break. An Expiring bank sends Access expires and the date. A Failed bank sends nothing, because it usually recovers on its own. A revocation at the bank and a connection ended by inactive billing each send one email to the owner.

No. A bank connection belongs to the login that made it, so only your partner sees its row in Settings and only they can click Fix connection. On your side, the accounts behind it show the red banner without a button until they repair it, and a paused one reads Fed by their name’s connection · paused.

Can I switch off one account instead of the whole bank?

Section titled “Can I switch off one account instead of the whole bank?”

Yes. Each account under the bank’s expanded row in Settings carries its own switch, reading Syncing or Off, and the account’s drawer has the same toggle under Advanced status. Troubleshooting sync has the steps.

No. A repair signs the existing link back in, and everything already pulled in stays. Troubleshooting sync has the detail on the replay.

What happens to my connections if the subscription lapses?

Section titled “What happens to my connections if the subscription lapses?”

They end. When the household is no longer entitled, Taiga Finance asks Plaid to end every connection, and each row reads Disconnected with ended when billing became inactive. The accounts and their history are kept and stop updating. Once billing is active again, connect each bank again from Accounts.
